The history of the Abrolhous Islands has been dominated in the past
by four centuries old shipwrecks!! This was the first part of Australia
to come into contact with european sailors and they lost their ships
and lives here on the treacherous reefs. They were bound for the Dutch
East Indies but were driven off course by the roaring forties.
The modern post war era has seen the place home to seasonal crayfishermen
who have exclusive use of the islands to catch Australias biggest seafood export,
Western Rock Lobster!!!![]()
